About Us
After successfully starting and running a very busy riding school on the edge of Epping Forest, Bobbie and John Bullman decided to relocate and move to Exmoor for the quiet life in 1987. They brought the business name ‘Pine Lodge’ to Higher Chilcott Farm, along with their collection of horses, dogs, cats and other animals.
Of course, after the move their lives were anything but quiet as they introduced thousands of people to the sheer joy of riding on Exmoor. Bobbie escorted hacks and hosted riding holidays on Exmoor for more than twenty five years. These were special times, creating many lasting friendships and helping Pine Lodge to forge its reputation as one of the most exciting and interesting places to go horse riding in the UK.
Pine Lodge isn’t your run of the mill trekking centre with grumpy plodding horses walking nose to tail. Our horses are happy, well-schooled and forward-going with temperaments and sizes to suit all riders. Many have been bred and trained on the farm and most riders return again and again to ride on their favourite horse and spend more time in this beautiful part of the world. Following Bobbie’s sad passing in 2020, John and the team at Pine Lodge are committed to running the place exactly as Bobbie would have wanted and we continue to welcome riders, guests and friends just as we have always done.
Laura, Emily and the rest of our team are DBS checked and fully-trained with extensive equine experience and BHS ride safe training. We adhere to strict safeguarding and health and safety policies and have a Five-Star-rated Animal Activities Licence, Number: LN/000006372.
